Love root
The Loyal Daughter
You may find yourself living a love life that looks a lot like your mother's — or like the one your father left behind. When things go well, a quiet guilt appears, as if happiness were a betrayal.
This is invisible loyalty. Children love their families so much that they stay faithful to their pain: not being happier, not leaving, not choosing differently. It feels like love. It is love. It just isn't freedom.
Where it may come from
Often, a mother who suffered in her relationship with your father — and a daughter who, without words, promised to stand by her.
What it may cost you
You may repeat patterns you swore you'd never repeat, or sabotage good things before they can "separate" you from where you come from.
Your first step
Try this, this week.
Say, silently or out loud: "Mom, Dad — I can love you and still live differently." Notice what you feel. That feeling is where Step 3 of ROOTS, Old loyalties, begins.
This quiz is a reflection tool, not a psychological assessment or diagnosis.
